I recently discovered a very nice software program that integrates Google Voice with Outlook 2010.  Calling a contact is as easy as right clicking on the contact and clicking “call”.   You can listen to your Google Voice messages, even use the texting feature from within Outlook.  The software is called Clamr!

Here is their website:

I had some issues on my desktop getting it installed, but it worked great on my laptop.  The cost is agreeable, but is on subscription at 30.00/year/seat.   The requirements are Outlook 2010 and a Google Voice account.  Works with Exchange or regular pop/imap.   Other nice features are broadcast “texting” to your contacts, file transfers, scheduled conference calls.  I recommend it for increased productivity.

If your like me, maybe you have multiple email accounts that you pop regularly into your outlook 2007?  You also have a laptop?  Did you “flirt” with Exchange?  I have.  The problem with exchange is it was designed for folks that have “one” email account.  If you only have “one” email account, then maybe exchange is the way to go for you?  But what about those folks that have “multiple” mail accounts going into outlook 2007?  Yes, what about that?  Doesn’t work so nicely if your trying to sync with a laptop.  You start getting duplicate emails and all sorts of issues because Exchange was apparently NOT designed for people like you and me with multiple mail accounts.

So you have other ways of syncing your data?  You may have already discovered that Google can sync your calendar quite nicely.  It does.  Then you wanted to sync your contacts?  Not so easy.  How about your sent folder?  Wouldn’t it be nice if you sent an email on your laptop that same “sent” email appeared in the sent folder on your desktop?  How about a sent email on your desktop showing up in the sent folder on your laptop so you have all your data all the time?  Well, I discovered some software that does just that.

Here’s the link:

You can download a 30 day trial and check it out.

You can even sync folders on your desktop with a folder on your laptop.  Drag and drop that spreadsheet into that folder and it appears on your laptop.  Make changes on your laptop and it’s now on your desktop perfectly synced.  The url above is not a “referral” url.  I don’t get anything for this.  I’m just so happy to have found a solution I’m willing to spill the beans!

This software is syncing all I need it to sync.  Very happy with it.  Don’t need it to sync my Inbox, just all the “other” stuff.

Got a blackberry?  I gave up on Google calendar and Contact’s sync.  I sync my blackberry with my desktop or laptop now.  I can sync with either computer now that both desktop and laptop are synced.  YES, it would be nice to have some software that would sync my calendar and contacts on my blackberry but I have yet to find anything that will do that yet.  This is where Exchange does great.  Either way, the money saved is worth the extra 2 minutes it takes me to manually sync my blackberry.    If you have an iPhone, I believe there is a syncing.net app that works good for you.

Spammers send out their email harvestor bots all the time.  If you put your email address on your website as a link in clear text, you will begin to get “spam”.  Given enough time, a LOT of it.   Email encoding can help a lot.  Ultimately, not putting your email address on your website is the best solution and stick with feed back forms that incorporate captcha images or math captcha.  A simple script by Craig Dansie, author of the Dansie Shopping Cart, can be found here: http://www.dansie.net/mail.html

It’s free.  Nice huh?  If you would like Craig Dansie to install it, he can do so for a very modest fee of 35.00 USD.

If you wish to put your email addresses on your site, here are a few helpful links to help you do it “securely”:

Be spam free before you have to pay a fee to be free!

If you can download email (recieve) but not send… and it worked just fine the day before… your ISP may be blocking the default smtp port 25. You will need to either use port 5190 or 587. Change that in the advanced settings and your problem should go away.

This is from outlook 2007. Very similar to outlook express. You may have to look around in your settings if you use alternative mail client software:

smtp-5190
